RXPE SERIES CAPACITORS TEIAS 400kV Kayabasi Substation SC Project

|
Customer Needs
TEIAS is the national power transmission company in Turkey, with major transmission lines rated at 400kV. TEIAS has totally 66,453km power transmission lines, 729 substations, 163,849 MVA transformer power and 12 interconnection lines with neighbor countries.
Kayabasi series compensation station was built more than 20 years ago, aiming to improve the transmission capacity, stability and reliability of the 400kV corridors of Kayabasi s/s - Kursunlu s/s, Kayabasi s/s - Baglum s/s and Kayabasi s/s -Deceko, to reduce the loss and optimize the power grids.
Due to aging problems, Kayabasi SCs need to be removed and replaced with new SC installations, including capacitor banks, MOVs, spark gaps, bypass breakers, platforms, C&P systems and so on.

RXPE Solution
In this project RXPE had delivered three sets of 400kV SCs. All the existing old ones were completely removed while new SCs have been supplied and installed at the same places.

The SC main parameters are specified as follows:
|
|
|
TEIAS SC protection scheme is designed as three level scheme including MOV, spark gap and bypass circuit breaker. Assuming if an external line fault occurred, the fault current will be bypassed by the MOVs, neither spark gap nor circuit breaker is allowed to bypass; while only if internal line faults occurred that the spark gap and circuit breaker is allowed to bypass. This means the SC will be always operating only except for internal lines faults.Capacitor bank, MOV, spark gap, damping circuit as well as the platform HV electronics are installed on the insulated platform, while the C&P panels are located in the control room on the ground. Optic fiber links are used for communications to/from the platform HV electronics.

Customer Benefits
Kayabasi SC had been successfully commissioned in the year 2018. This project had significantly improved the TEIAS 400kV corridors’ power transmission capability and successfully solved the “transmission bottleneck” issues in this area, meanwhile helped enhance the grids stability.
